Resumo:Introduction: Aging is a natural, progressive and individual aspect, which can be observed in the individual changes in their physiological functions. Among the physiological changes associated with musculoskeletal functions in the elderly, pain has a significant psychosocial and economic impact, and can also cause functional disability. Objective: To evaluate the musculoskeletal pain of the elderly in three different scenarios: urban area, rural area and Institution of Long Stay for the Elderly. Method: Cross - sectional observational study with quantitative approach, carried out in the city of Cuité - PB. The sample was nonprobabilistic, for convenience, of 27 elderly people in each scenario: residents in an ILPI, in the urban area and in the rural area. Data were collected through Phase 1 of the Community Program for the Control of Rheumatic Diseases (COPCORD), in the months of July and August of 2017 and were analyzed by chi-square statistical tests and Fischer's exact test. Results: Among the 81 elderly evaluated in the study, there was a predominance of females, in the age range of 60 to 65 years. Regarding the presence, intensity and location of pain in the last 7 days and in the past, there was no statistically significant association found between the scenarios evaluated. Conclusion: Musculoskeletal pain in the elderly was evaluated in all three places of residence. No association was found with the presence, location and intensity of pain in the last seven days or at some time in the past. This work can contribute to compare with other realities of ILPI and the elderly belonging to other communities.
