description This thesis addresses the care for male perpetrators of domestic violence prescribed by the Law 11.340/2006. The Maria da Penha Law, as it is more commonly known, was established to prevent domestic violence against women and hold offenders accountable. Thus, the general objective of this study was to analyze the constraints and possibilities of a reflective group of male perpetrators of domestic violence against women in the city of Natal. The research locus was a support center for women who suffer domestic violence. Data were collected from September to December 2017, in two stages. The first stage was documental and consisted of analyzing the records of the patients participating in the 26 reflective groups. The second one comprised participant observation and semi-structured individual interviews. The results of the first stage indicated a possible profile of the male perpetrators of domestic violence who participated in the reflective groups. They are mostly adults from 31 to 40 years, are brown (“pardo”), and have low level of education and low income. Most cases of violence – especially physical violence - happened during a romantic relationship. The results of the second stage suggested the need for improvements to use the potentials of the groups better, mainly in terms of offenders’ reflection and accountability. Also, the groups alone cannot change the violent masculinities and the capitalist, patriarchal and racist structure. Wider work is necessary in the fight for equality and to overcome the current structure, to seek a truly emancipatory praxis.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) A presente tese aborda o atendimento para homens autores de violência (HAV) previsto na Lei 11.340/2006, mais conhecida como Lei Maria da Penha, a qual foi criada para coibir os casos de violência doméstica contra a mulher e responsabilizar os HAV. Pensando nisso, o objetivo geral deste trabalho foi analisar os limites e as potencialidades de um grupo reflexivo com homens autores de violência doméstica contra a mulher na cidade do Natal. O lócus de pesquisa foi um núcleo de apoio a mulheres em situação de violência doméstica. A coleta de dados compreendeu o período de setembro a dezembro de 2017, sendo realizada em duas etapas: uma etapa documental, que consistiu na análise das fichas de atendimento dos participantes dos grupos reflexivos, desde a sua constituição, totalizando uma análise de 26 grupos. A outra etapa contou com observação participante e entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas. Os resultados da primeira etapa demonstraram o perfil dos homens autores de violência participantes dos grupos reflexivos. Sendo assim, constatou-se que a população de HAV é composta em sua maioria por adultos na faixa etária de 31 a 40 anos, pardos, de baixa renda e com baixa escolaridade. A maioria das situações de violência ocorreram durante o relacionamento do casal, destacando-se a violência física. Os resultados da segunda etapa, por sua vez, indicaram que ainda são necessárias melhorias que possibilitem utilizar de forma otimizada as potencialidades dos grupos, principalmente no que se refere à reflexão e responsabilização dos HAV. Além disso, defende-se que os grupos isoladamente não conseguem transformar as masculinidades violentas e a estrutura patriarcal-racista-capitalista.
