Nowadays, the textbook provided by the Ministry of Education through the National Textbook Plan has been used by teachers and students as the main resource in the most different educational establishments. With regard to Geography, whose object of study is the geographic space, which corresponds to a wide field of investigation, which shows that its approach is made taking into account the geographical scales, whatever they are local, regional, national and global. Since the geographic space is established in global relations, but with peculiarities of each place. In this sense, this study aims to produce a regional didactic book that reproduces the physical, social, cultural, economic and political characteristics of the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Piancó (RMVP) in the hinterlands of Paraíba, whose target audience will be students of the 7th year of elementary school. The methodology of this research was accomplished through 3 steps: documentary research, bibliographic research and case study in all 18 municipalities that make up the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Piancó. Considering the bibliography analyzed, it was noticed that the approach of geographic themes present in the students' living space facilitates the process of understanding themselves, thus favoring their analogy with larger scales (CALLAI, 2009) still allows the formation of being as a citizen (CAVALCANTI, 2010). Therefore, it is understood that the regional textbook will help the teachers and students of this locality serving as complementary material to the textbook provided by the Ministry of Education.

A Geografia enquanto disciplina escolar sempre utilizou diferentes recursos didáticos para facilitar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem dos conteúdos abordados nos seus diferentes níveis de ensino, destaca-se neste cenário o livro didático. Nos dias atuais, o livro didático disponibilizado pelo Ministério de Educação por meio do Plano Nacional do Livro Didático tem sido utilizado por professores e alunos como o principal recurso nos mais diferentes estabelecimentos educacionais. No tocante a Geografia, cujo objeto de estudo é o espaço geográfico, que corresponde a um amplo campo de investigação, o que evidencia que sua abordagem seja feita levando em consideração as escalas geográficas, quais sejam, a local, regional, nacional e global. Uma vez que o espaço geográfico se estabelece em relações globais, mas com peculiaridades de cada local. Neste sentido, este estudo tem como objetivo principal produzir um livro didático regional que reproduza as características – físicas, sociais, culturais, econômicas e políticas - da Região Metropolitana do Vale do Piancó (RMVP) no sertão paraibano, cujo público-alvo será os alunos do 7º ano do ensino fundamental anos finais. A metodologia desta pesquisa foi realizada através de 3 etapas: pesquisa documental, pesquisa bibliográfica e estudo de caso em todos os 18 municípios que compõem a RMVP. Diante da bibliografia analisada percebeu-se que a abordagem de temas geográficos presentes no espaço de vivência dos alunos facilita o processo de compreensão dos mesmos favorecendo, assim, sua analogia com escalas maiores (CALLAI, 2009) ainda possibilita a formação do ser enquanto cidadão (CAVALCANTI, 2010).
