This study considers chronicle, lato sensu, as a textual and discursive
manifestation whose characteristics make it slip the attempts of a rigid theoretical
framework in what concerns its nature. Literature believes in the metaphorical power
of the chronicle and, therefore, claims its paternity, while Journalism argues that it is
its natural cradle. The fact is that the discourses on the chronicle harbor not only the
question of belonging but of its own constitution. These questions are interesting to
those whose research involves the characteristic and the constitution of textual genres,
and thus, in general, of studies on language. The main objective of this work is to
identify and analyze the presence of the chronic genus in the newspaper O
Mossoroense in the period from 1872 to 2000. In order to reach the general objective,
it follows more specific objectives, as follows: 1 To analyze the discourses that involve
two domains of knowledge, be they Literature and Journalism, about the belonging of
the chronic genre; 2. To present the different postures of the chronicler himself in
relation to his office; 3. To construct a minimal corpus, constituent of chronicles of the
newspaper O Mossoroense, that is fruitful to new researches and studies; 4. List, in
general, periods, themes, issues and motives dealt with in the chronicles of Jornal O
Mossoroense; 5. Identify the chroniclers of each period, preserving and documenting
this memory. Related to the newspaper O Mossoroense, it analyzes that, over time,
the chronicle gain ground as a genre that did not only contain chronological reports
related to the city, but which was reanalyzed and gained space and identity within the
newspaper. The chronicle presents great political and social discussions occurred in
the country, as it happens with the chronicles of the twentieth century. Since it
investigates the presence of the chronicle in the newspaper, it detaches the importance
of Mossoroense for the history of the Potiguar Press and the country. A journal of
resistance from its foundation to today, struggling to resist the weather. |

Este estudo compreende a crônica, lato sensu, como manifestação textual e discursiva cujas características fazem-na escorregar às tentativas de um enquadramento teórico rígido no que concerne a sua natureza. A Literatura crê no poder metafórico da crônica e, por isso, reclama sua paternidade, enquanto o Jornalismo argumenta ser seu berço natural. O fato é que os discursos sobre a crônica abrigam não apenas a questão do pertencimento mas também a sua própria constituição. Essas questões interessam àqueles cujas pesquisas envolvem a característica e a constituição dos gêneros textuais e, assim, de modo geral, dos estudos sobre a linguagem. Este trabalho, de cunho teórico, bibliográfico e documental, tem como objetivo geral identificar e analisar a presença do gênero crônica no jornal O Mossoroense, no período compreendido entre 1872 a 2000. Para atingir o objetivo geral, esta pesquisa segue objetivos mais específicos, assim descritos: 1. analisar os discursos que envolvem dois domínios de conhecimento, sejam eles a Literatura e o Jornalismo, sobre o pertencimento do gênero crônica; 2. apresentar as diferentes posturas do próprio cronista em relação ao seu ofício; 3. construir um corpus mínimo, constitutivo de crônicas do jornal O Mossoroense, que seja frutífero a novas pesquisas e estudos; 4. elencar, de modo geral, períodos, temas, questões e motivos tratados nas crônicas do Jornal O Mossoroense; 5. identificar os cronistas de cada período, preservando e documentando essa memória. No que se refere ao Jornal O Mossoroense, observa que, ao longo do tempo, a crônica ganha espaço como gênero que não abrigava apenas relatos cronológicos ligados à cidade mas ainda se reatualizando e ganhando espaço e identidade no interior do jornal. A crônica apresenta grandes discussões políticas e sociais ocorridas no país, como acontece com as crônicas do século XX.
