| Resumo: | The object of this research is the career of the musician Adelson Silva,
particularly to compare aspects related to his performance as a drummer of two
important frevo orchestras in Pernambuco (PE). We examined his performance in
two different moments - on Antologia do Frevo (Disco), recorded with Orquestra do
Maestro José Menezes, in the 1970s, and Passo de Anjo (CD), recorded with
Spokfrevo Orquestra, between 2004 and 2006. Since this is a fieldwork, the
methodology consisted of i) interviews with Adelson Silva. In addition to interviews
and / or informal conversations previously scheduled with the conductors Spok,
Edson Rodrigues, Ademir Araújo (Formiga), Guedes Peixoto, drummers Wellington
Jamaica (from Orquestra Popular da Bomba do Hemetério) and Augusto Silva (from
Spokfrevo Orquestra), ii) visits to Joaquim Nabuco Foundation (FUNDAJ) and Paço
do Frevo, iii) transcription and musical analysis of both CDs. As a result, we
discussed the main, evident characteristic of Adelson Silva’s performance - the way
of executing the rhythm of frevo applied to the drum set, what distinguishes him from
other drummers in the state of PE. |
