Valor nutritivo do mandacaru sem espinhos, palma orelha de elefante mexicana e miúda na alimentação de ovinos
This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional value of forage cactus: mandacaru without spine (Cereus hildmannianus K. Schum), mexican elephant ear (Opuntia stricta Haw.) and palm yielded (Nopalea cochenillifera Salm Dyck) in sheep feed. Fifteen crossbred (½ Soinga x ½ Santa Inês) sheep, uncastrat...

Resumo: | This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional value of forage cactus: mandacaru without spine
(Cereus hildmannianus K. Schum), mexican elephant ear (Opuntia stricta Haw.) and palm
yielded (Nopalea cochenillifera Salm Dyck) in sheep feed. Fifteen crossbred (½ Soinga x ½
Santa Inês) sheep, uncastrated, four months old and average initial body weight of 17.27 kg ±
1.05 kg, housed in metabolism cages, were distributed in a completely randomized
experimental design with three treatments and five replicates. Experimental diets were
composed of 430.9 g Kg -1 of mandacaru without spines, 525.7 g kg -1 of mexican elephant
ear and 492.1 g kg -1 of palm yielded, 194.7 to 233.8 g Kg -1 sage hay, 279.5 to 313.3 g kg -
1 concentrate and 18.4 to 22.0 g kg -1 mineral salt. The experimental period lasted 21 days -
14 days for diet adaptation and seven days for data collection. There was no difference (P>
0.05) for dry matter intake, organic matter intake, ethereal extract intake, neutral detergent fiber
intake, total carbohydrates intake, non - fiber carbohydrates intake, total digestible nutrients
intake and voluntary water intake between experimental diets. The crude protein intake was
influenced (P <0.05) by the experimental diets, with a higher intake by the animals that received
the mandacaru treatment without spines (145.10 g day -1). The animals fed palm mexican
elephant ear showed higher water intake via the diet and total, averaging 4478.61 g of 1-day
water and 4625.94 g water day-1, respectively. There were no differences (P> 0.05) in the
digestibility coefficients of dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, total
carbohydrates, non-fiber carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients between the experimental
diets, with mean values of 68.10 %; 69.78%; 56.37%; 65.57%; 73.27%; 84.68% and 65,57%
respectively. Behavioral variables, rumination time, feeding efficiency and rumination were
not influenced by diets (P> 0.05). Feeding time was higher (P <0.05) by animals fed with the
diet composed of mexican elephant ear. Cactaceae, mandacaru without spines, mexican
elephant ear and palm yielded have similar nutritive value and can be used in sheep feed. |
