| Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: The aging of brazilian population has been accelerating in
recent years, and this phenomenon demands changes in society in view of an
increasing number of people who need special care. In this context, medical
courses need to adapt to the new reality by inserting in their curricular
structures specific contents on the health of the elderly. This new situation also
requires more and better-specialized services in the care of the elderly. This
project aimed to structure and implement a service for elderly in the region of
Caicó, with the purpose of improving the care provided to this population, as
well as creating a practical learning scenario for undergraduate and graduate
students at Escola Multicampi de Ciências Médicas da Universidade Federal do
Rio Grande do Norte. METHODS: The process of organization of the service
included: articulation with the managers to define the place, development of the
attendance sheet with adaptation of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment
(AGA) and an Attendance Protocol (anamnesis and physical examination) for
the first consultation and a follow-up for reevaluations and returns. RESULTS:
Two services were structured, the post-discharge clinic at the Caicó Regional
Hospital and the General Geriatrics outpatient clinic at the EMCM School Clinic
Resident medical doctors and students of medical graduation make the
attendance from EMCM/UFRN, with supervision of the doctor and professor
specializing in Geriatrics. CONCLUSION:From this, it is affirmed that the
present study fomented a new strategy and became a new social equipment in
health care for the Elderly, considering its importance in dimensions that cross
medical care, such as socio-demographic conditions and quality of life. |
