Resumo:The women in rural settlement from agrarian reform live in awful conditions of life and work, as well as struggle to reach access to public policies that contribute to the worsening of violence situation that overly impact the physical and mental health of the women and the family. This research objective is to investigate the relationship between violence against the women and the social support between the local residents of a rural settlement of agrarian reform, considering that the crossing of gender dimensions. The specific objective seeks to detect the occurrence of gender-based violence and its peculiarities in the rural environment; map the configuration of formal net social support and non-formal available in this context and identify what steps walked for this women in search of help and what resources are used for disrupting the violence cycle. It's a descriptive study, with qualitative approach that seek to comprehend the speeches and practices that maintain violence situations in the rural settlement in a way that present itself in the everyday life of this women. Nine women were interviewed, residents of a rural settlement in Rio Grande do Norte. The results indicate that the gender violence against women is associated to the inequality of gender relationship, to the invisibility of female work, to the prevalence of rigid gender tasks, to the violence naturalization, as well as the understanding of the violence as a private environment. It was verified that women appeal firstly to non-formal support (family, friends), the search for services is made only when the situation are getting worse, just as endure to access a health service, to the social support and the public policies of attention in protection of women in violence situation.
