description This research was designed with the purpose to offer a critical and analytical reading of memory and time in books like Corpo Breve (1980) e Os Pássaros da Memória (1994), written by the potiguar poet Diógenes da Cunha Lima. In the literary work of Cunha Lima, the time of poetry is not a time sung in a fixed way or related to a term or time, nor it’s a historical time, with its manifestations and contradictions. In the poet's view, there is a time of memories and reflections, a kind of inner time that every human being experiences as his own. The work Corpo Breve is made up of 53 poems of diverse themes focusing on the childhood of the lyrical self; Os Pássaros da Memória is composed of eight long poems, fragmented into 77 small parts, all presenting time as a title and subdivided as if they were fragments of memory. The development of the research presents a theoretical approach both to modern poetry and to memory in general way, later, configured within the limits of the poem, also presenting a critical approach, evidenced in the reading of several poems. The works O Ser e o Tempo na Poesia, from Alfredo Bosi (1983), Memória e Sociedade: Lembranças de Velhos, from Ecléa Bosi (1994), História e Memória, from Le Goff (1994), A Memória, a História, o Esquecimento, from Paul Ricoeur (2007), O Ser-Tempo, from André Comte-Sponville (2006), e Matéria e Memória from Henri Bergson (1999), together with other constants of the bibliographical references, were constituted fundamental theoretical anchors to discuss, in the poetry of Diogenes da Cunha Lima, questions related to memory, in practice, while exercised, and as ancient facts resurge, with the theme of time, through the lyrical self. It is a research of a reflective and interpretive character.

Esta pesquisa foi pensada com o intuito de oferecer uma leitura crítica e analítica da memória e do tempo nos livros Corpo Breve (1980) e Os Pássaros da Memória (1994), do poeta potiguar Diógenes da Cunha Lima. Em sua obra, o tempo da poesia não é um tempo cantado de maneira fixa ou relacionado a um prazo ou época, também não é um tempo histórico, com suas manifestações e contradições. Na visão do poeta, existe um tempo de memórias e reflexões, uma espécie de tempo interior que cada ser humano vivencia como seu. A obra Corpo Breve constitui-se de 53 poemas de temas diversos com foco na infância do eu lírico; já Os Pássaros da Memória é composto de oito longos poemas, fragmentados em 77 pequenas partes, todos apresentando o tempo como título e subdivididos como se fossem fragmentos da memória. O desenvolvimento da pesquisa apresenta uma abordagem teórica tanto acerca da poesia moderna quanto da memória de um modo geral, posteriormente, configurada nos limites do poema. Também apresenta uma abordagem crítica, evidenciada na leitura de vários poemas. As obras O Ser e o Tempo na Poesia, de Alfredo Bosi (1983), Memória e Sociedade: Lembranças de Velhos, de Ecléa Bosi (1994), História e Memória, de Le Goff (1994), A Memória, a História, o Esquecimento, de Paul Ricoeur (2007), O Ser-Tempo, de André Comte-Sponville (2006) e Matéria e Memória, de Henri Bergson (1999), juntamente com outras presentes nas referências bibliográficas, constituíram-se em âncoras teóricas fundamentais para se discutir, na poesia de Diógenes da Cunha Lima, questões relacionadas à memória, na prática, enquanto exercida, e como fatos antigos ressurgem, com a temática do tempo, através do eu lírico.
