Özet:This study intends to consider the area of anthropology of consumption and some views on the study of material culture in the contemporary, in the sense of perceiving how things make people and produce social relations in chains. Recognizing that consumption can be seen as a means of identifying social groups, embedded in a project of territoriality and mapping, diversifying and expanding the effects of consumption, its symbolic force, in an attempt to build a deeper understanding of an unseparated humanity Of materiality. The research starts from the city of Juazeiro do Norte (Ceará), with the purpose of consuming the statues of Padre Cícero by devout pilgrims. It is structured in three moments: initial presentation of the field of study; Theoretical perspectives on the possibilities of analysis on the consumption of the statues of Father Cícero; Construction of a new reading from the theory of things, analyzing the meanings, meanings of the consumption of treco (Miller, 2010) Father Cicero and the system of gifts (Mauss, 2011) as a constant game of freedom and obligation.
