The analysis is based on observation that the region was sung for Patativa with deep fidelity to his view about it, without necessarily help the building of similar images to what means “real” or to what is known by the hegemonic discourse. This study, in this sense, interpret various tensions about the sign of Sertão shown in Patativa’s poetry, suggest them like elements which constitute a poetic in frontier condition. For that, the research, especially, is based on the theories of Silviano Santiago (2000) about the concept of “entre-lugar”, on studies about the traditions by Octávio Paz (1984) and Amadou Hampaté Bâ (1982), as well as on researches about country and city / sertão and metropolis by Raymond Williams (1989) and Durval Muniz (2011). The discourse of Patativa was analysed starting from the idea about his subject construction, entering in the Sertão which was sing by him and in that one which dialogues with what is said by the other, lastly, the study is balanced in the middle of the fight of this Sertão which exists and resists. As poesias de Patativa do Assaré publicadas em seu primeiro livro, Inspiração Nordestina, inspiram o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa, tendo em vista que por meio delas o estudo propõe leituras acerca da complexidade da representação do Sertão no discurso do poeta. A análise é norteada pela observação de que tal espaço foi cantado por Patativa com profunda fidedignidade ao seu olhar sobre ele, sem necessariamente possibilitar a construção de retratos similares ao que é considerado como “real”, ou ao que foi cristalizado pelo discurso hegemônico. O estudo, ainda nesse sentido, interpreta as diversas tensões sobre o signo Sertão expostas na lira patativana, sugerindo-as como elementos constituintes de uma poética em estado de fronteira. Para tanto, a pesquisa apoiou-se, especialmente, nas delimitações de Silviano Santiago (2000) sobre o conceito de entre-lugar, nos estudos sobre a tradição desenvolvidos por Octávio Paz (1984) e Amadou Hampaté Bâ (1982), bem como nos olhares sobre campo e cidade / sertão e metrópoles de Raymond Williams (1989) e Durval Muniz (2011).
