Objective: The aim of this study is to find out the reasons of the inclusion of those technicians in public service, no matter the importance of this work. Method: It is about a quantitive study and a kind of exploring type, taking into account that there are not any similar previous ones. We divide it into two parts: as regards the first one, these technicians were registered in a map using the information of the Formation Schools and Class Counsel to know how and where they are. During the moment of this study, an application (or no application) of the mouth health equipments was done. They tried to discover in this process which elements contribute to the efficiency (or not) of this technical work done all together in equipment work. As regards the second part, the coordinators of Municipal Mouth Health answered to a survay that contained open and closed questions through telephone calls. The sample was defined by a raffle taking into account the work contained in municipalities. Results: There are 1053 technicians.94,3% of them are women, devided in all the health regions. As regards interview, 96,9% of oral health coordinators considered that it is very important to have an oral health technician in odontology. 92,2% would reccomend its inclusion in equipments related to mouth health, dealing to familly health . 76% have never talked before to the Health Secretary in this municipality. this spreading out could be related to financial resources and 51,6% mentioned the importance of improving the physical structure to make this spreading out possible. Conclusions: Oral Health technicians in Rio Grande Do Norte are not being adequatly used by public service, because they do not introduce themselves or act as Oral Health auxiliaries. It is important to increase concience about the importance of this category in odontology. we also say it is necesasary to invert money in a reform of the Basic Health Unities and the inclusion of these workers. On the other hand the role of the state and the public health militancy is questioned in the fulfilment of this process

On the other hand the role of the state and the public health militancy is questioned in the fulfilment of this process Introdução - O Técnico em Saúde Bucal (TSB) é um dos profissionais da Odontologia que têm suas atribuições profissionais definidas através da lei federal 11889, podendo atuar na prevenção, promoção e recuperação da saúde bucal. Segundo o site do Departamento de Atenção Básica, do Ministério da Saúde, pode-se constatar através do histórico de cobertura da Estratégia Saúde da Família, que no Rio Grande do Norte existem atualmente apenas oito equipes com TSB implantadas. Objetivo - O presente estudo buscou elucidar os motivos da pouca inserção desses profissionais no serviço público, apesar da relevância do seu trabalho. Método - Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa, sendo um estudo de caso do tipo exploratório, tendo em vista que não existem estudos semelhantes precedentes, e está dividida em duas fases distintas: a princípio foi realizado um mapeamento desses técnicos utilizando informações cadastrais das escolas formadoras e conselho de classe para descobrir quantos são e onde estão. E num segundo momento da pesquisa, foi feita uma análise do processo de implantação (ou não implantação) das equipes de saúde bucal para descobrir que fatores contribuíram para a efetivação (ou não efetivação) deste tipo de trabalho técnico nas equipes. Nessa segunda fase, os Coordenadores de Saúde Bucal municipais responderam a um questionário contendo questões abertas e fechadas através de ligações telefônicas. A amostra foi definida por sorteio levando em consideração a força potencial de trabalho contida nos municípios. Resultados - 1053 técnicos com 94,3% do sexo feminino, distribuídos por todas as Regionais de Saúde. Quanto as entrevistas, 96,9% dos coordenadores de saúde bucal acham importante um técnico em saúde bucal na Odontologia, 92,2% recomendariam a inclusão na Saúde da Família, muito embora 76,6% nunca tenha falado com o Secretário de Saúde sobre essa implantação em seu município, 40% disseram que a falta dessa implantação poderia estar relaciona a recursos financeiros e 31,7% citou a necessidade de melhorar a estrutura física para que fosse possível essa implantação. Conclusões - Os Técnicos em Saúde Bucal do Rio Grande do Norte estão sendo mal aproveitados pelo serviço público.
