Here the social and spatial impacts produced by Rede Globo's main fiction program, the soapoperas, on the collective imagination of the inhabitants of Caicó are the main interest. The main argument here is that this TV program has an anormons influence on the evereday life of the people who live in Caicó and this influence ends up modifying their social, spatial and cultural pratices. This influence has been also working as the main force producing a real spatial impact. In this sense "new spaces of dialogue" are constructed through the influence of television. The main understandig is then that the soapoperas, at least within the context of Caicó, are a great force constructing social and spatial collective imagination of this city's inhabitants. Sob a perspectiva da Geografia Cultural, esta pesquisa discute, através de subsídios teóricos, bibliográficos e empíricos, a influência e a interferência socioespacial das telenovelas da Rede Globo na construção do imaginário dos moradores da cidade de Caicó RN. Pensando a televisão como elemento importante na configuração da realidade contemporânea e, mais especificamente, as telenovelas, em relação ao estudo de caso Caicó , este trabalho levanta dados e informações que ajudam à compreensão da formação do imaginário social dos habitantes de Caicó. A recepção das telenovelas é mediada por práticas cotidianas que estão inseridas no contexto sociocultural do telespectador. As telenovelas estão presentes no cotidiano da população caicoense, e muitos telespectadores as internalizam de forma imaginária alterando o seu cotidiano e o seu modo de vida, seja por meio de aproximações espaciais, seja por identificação com as personagens da ficção, seja através de referências às telenovelas que são encontradas no seu dia-a-dia, com relação direta no imaginário popular. Contatou-se que, com a presença da televisão, novos espaços de diálogo se estabelecem, ou seja, algumas pessoas assistem assiduamente às telenovelas e, a partir delas, tomam posições individuais e se relacionam com outros conflitos vividos em seus dramas privados.
