Seven children took part in the research: three boys and four girls, aged between six and twelve years old. The analysis were done from the constructed data obtained from: semi-structured interview, activities about human feelings, activities that included facial expressions, unfinished phrases, Pinocchio s story, a drawing of a family and a drawing of their own family. Data were analyzed from the Content Analysis. The Thematic Units were: violence, intrafamily violence, and self-esteem. The synthesis of the categories studied evidenced that the physical violence and the psychological violence present in the lives of children affect the positive development of their self-concept and, consequently, of their self-esteem. Among the results, we emphasize some negative feelings that are present in children s lives such as fear, a sense of guilt, and sadness, arising out of the situations of violence they have experienced Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Esta pesquisa investiga a auto-estima das crianças que sofreram violência física tendo como agente membro da família. Participaram como sujeitos da pesquisa 7 crianças - 3 do sexo masculino e 4 do feminino - com idade entre 6 anos completos e 12 anos, incompletos. As análises foram feitas a partir dos dados obtidos em entrevista semi-estruturada, atividades sobre os sentimentos humanos, atividades que incluíam expressões faciais, frases inacabadas, história de Pinóquio, o desenho de uma família e o desenho da família do sujeito. Os indicadores foram analisados a partir da análise do conteúdo. As unidades temáticas foram: violência, violência intrafamiliar e auto-estima. A síntese das categorias estudadas evidenciou que a violência física e a violência psicológica presentes na vida das crianças comprometem o desenvolvimento positivo de seu autoconceito e, conseqüentemente, de sua auto-estima.
