| Resumo: | Study of free software in public school libraries at Itaqui-Bacanga area at São Luís, Maranhão. The use of information and communication technology underlying the automation process in information units, especially in school libraries of the state network, for the purpose of access, control and information retrieval. Employs the methodology of field research with exploratory and descriptive approach to data collection. Covers concepts and definitions of free software as a solution to the problem of organization and control libraries acquis in search of economic proposals and / or no cost. Has the meanings and ideals of the Free Software Foundation that guides the usage policy of free software, exposing the degree of influence of the use of technologies in the processes performed in libraries. Features the research project in question, and clarifies your goals, research universe and methods for implementation of free software, and the partial results. Concludes stating that the position of the analyzed libraries reflects the lack of public policies for these social organizations, leading to the need to seek some measures to address the problem of lack of active library and with appropriate facilities. Therefore, the automation of school libraries, using free software, consisting of an effective tool for the organization, control, delivery and retrieval of information for users in the school environment. |
