Resumo:In 2004, the social coast of violence was approximately R$ 92.2 billion or R$ 519.40, per inhabit, which correspond to 5.09% of Brazilian GDP. When the public security policies are elaborated, the efficiently public resources utilization must be achieved. So, this research analyses the performance in the management of the budgetary expenditures with public security in Brazil, between 2008 and 2010, through the analysis clusters resulting from the intersection of per capita spending on public security with the rates of homicidal violence in Brazilian states and the Federal District. The relatively more efficient federal units were the Amazonas, Maranhão, Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte and the relatively less efficient federal units were Alagoas, Amapá, Mato Grosso, Rondônia and Rio de Janeiro.Key-words: Public security.
