description  The Costa do Cacau, located on the southern coast of the state of Bahia, is a very important region from an environmental point of view, as it harbors one of the greatest biodiversity on the planet. In addition to this, the region attracts a lot of tourist activity due to the beauties of its beaches distributed along about 180 km of coastline. However, as in all coastal areas, it suffers from the advance and retreat of the coastline, which constantly changes its position at various time scales, intensifying the need to carry out studies aimed at understanding the dynamics of the coastline, as a subsidy for the maintenance and protection of this environment. In this sense, this work has its relevance highlighted, as it aims to characterize the space-time variations of the coastline in the Costa do Cacau region in the decadal time interval, between the period from 1990 to 2020. A historical analysis of the coastline was carried out through multispectral orbital images with low cloud cover for the study region, from the series of Land Remote Sensing Satellite (LANDSAT) satellites. For the medium-term analysis period, 30 years, four coastlines were used, from the years 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2020. It was concluded that the study provided, in a quantitative and qualitative way, the analysis of the dynamics of the coastline in the region of Costa do Cacau. The total area modified by accretion and erosion processes increased significantly between the first (1990-2000) and the last (2010-2020) period of the investigated decadal interval. It is noteworthy that, considering the social, economic and environmental importance of the Costa do Cacau, continuous monitoring is necessary in order to better understand the coastal dynamics of this region

Além disto atrai bastante atividade turística devido às belezas de suas praias distribuídas ao longo de cerca de 180 km de faixa litorânea. No entanto, assim como acontece em toda zona costeira, vem sofrendo com o avanço e o recuo da linha de costa, que muda constantemente de posição em várias escalas temporais, intensificando a necessidade da realização de estudos, que visem entender a dinâmica da linha de costa na região, como subsídio para a manutenção e proteção deste ambiente. Neste sentido, este trabalho tem sua relevância destacada, pois tem o objetivo de caracterizar as variações espaço-temporais da linha costeira na região da Costa do Cacau no intervalo de tempo decadal, entre o período de 1990 a 2020. Realizou-se análise histórica da linha de costa através de imagens orbitais multiespectrais com baixa cobertura de nuvens para a região de estudo, provenientes da série dos satélites Land Remote Sensing Satellite (LANDSAT). Para o período de análise, de médio prazo, 30 anos, utilizou-se quatro linhas de costa, dos anos de 1990, 2000, 2010 e 2020. Concluiu-se que, o estudo forneceu de forma quantitativa e qualitativa, a análise da dinâmica da linha de costa na região da Costa do Cacau. A área total modificada pelos processos de acreção e erosão aumentou significativamente entre o primeiro (1990-2000) e o último (2010-2020) período de intervalo decadal investigado. Ressalta-se que, considerando a importância social, econômica e ambiental da Costa do Cacau, há a necessidade de um monitoramento contínuo com a finalidade de melhor compreender a dinâmica costeira desta região.
