Literatura e violência Literatura e fome Literatura e sociedade The article discusses the literary works Os sertões (1902), by Euclides da Cunha, A Bagaceira (1928), by José Américo de Almeida, O Quinze (1930) by Rachel de Queiroz, and Pedra Bonita (1938), by José Lins do Rêgo, aiming to identify points in common, such as the compositional violence of the sertanejo’s formal structure: hunger and the environment – natural and social – hostile. The study allows delimiting issues around life in the hinterland that, denounced in Euclidean work, are fictionalized by Almeidiano, Queiroziano and Reguiano novels, observing the relationship between literature and the context of its creation. The approach makes it possible to glimpse the literature as a way of provoking reflections, other perceptions in the face of the reality of violence with which individuals have become accustomed, and may contribute to changing this situation, especially when it is verified, day by day, the increasing number of its victims.
