It points out that, because it was formed in colonial molds, violence in Brazilian society is based on structural elements, which have at their core the clash of identities, and exposes the varied nature of violence and its types. As, in relationship with the adult, the child is considered an other, the article conceives violence against this social category from the perspective of identities. In it, literary texts that have children or adolescents as protagonists are analyzed and it is concluded that, by representing violence, these texts manifest themselves against it, denouncing it through symbolic language. O presente artigo investiga a manifestação da violência, compreendida como toda ação que aniquila ou reduz a dignidade de alguém e que se funda sobre as bases do autoritarismo, relacionando esse comportamento à cultura brasileira. Esse ponto de vista é fundamentado em estudos de Sociologia, de Antropologia, de Pedagogia e de História, que ressaltam que, por ser formada em moldes coloniais, a violência da sociedade brasileira se assenta em elementos estruturais, que têm em seu âmago o confronto de identidades. Como, em sua relação com o adulto, a criança é um outro, o artigo concebe a violência contra essa categoria social sob a perspectiva das identidades e enfoca sua representação em textos literários. Nesse procedimento, analisam-se, entre outros, os textos “Não chore, papai” (2011), de Sergio Faraco, Cena de rua (1994), de Ângela Lago, “Fragilidade” (2003), de Jane Tutikian, os quais têm crianças ou adolescentes como protagonistas, e busca-se sustentação em estudos da Linguística, da Semiótica, da Narratologia e em documentos legais. Em seu desenvolvimento, o artigo explicita sentidos da linguagem simbólica e conclui que, ao representar a violência, a literatura manifesta-se contra ela, denunciando sua presença no meio social.
