Resumo:In recent years, Rio Grande do Norte has been among the Brazilian states with the highest rate ofhomicides against young people, with the majority of people murdered being men, blacks andpoor people. Starting from this social problem and considering that women are the mainresponsible for the care of these subjects, seeking daily ways to safeguard them from the risk ofdeath, in my master's research I tried to understand what are the perceptions of public safety andthe strategies for maintaining life of young blacks that “mothers” who had already lost a “son”adopt so that other wards with the same profile do not die. To carry out the dissertation, anethnography was made of the mothering relationship of six women who live in a region of thecity of Parnamirim-RN with problems of urban violence since the end of the 90s. understand howmothers deal with such a social configuration, with special emphasis on the recent changes in theworld due to the coronavirus pandemic and the international struggle for the lives of black people. In this work, I propose to deepen reflections on how these women were rebuilding their worldand their families amid the mourning of the loss of a child and the two events of greatinternational impact mentioned above.
