Diet represents one of the main factors associated with caries and the process of dental erosion, whose consumed foods directly influence the individual's oral health. Changes in pH in the oral environment, as well as frequent exposure to sugars, can result in demineralization of the tooth structure, exposing dentin and dentinal tubules, causing pain, hypersensitivity, and functional and aesthetic impairment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physical-chemical properties of three brands and flavors of tea available on the market, verifying the values of the amount of sugar and pH, and analyzing if it’s below the critical pH of cariogenic potential and dental demineralization. The research followed the physical-chemical methodology of Instituto Adolfo Lutz, in which the Total Dissolved Solids (TSS) were evaluated by degrees Brix and the Titratable Acidity by pHmetro device. Three brands of tea were analyzed in the present study, including three flavors for each brand. None of the samples tested showed a significant value of Total Dissolved Solids, the indicative of an absence of sugar in its composition. Although, two (Maravilhas da Terra and Q-vita) of the three brands analyzed had pH values below the critical pH (pH = 5,5) for dissolution of the dental structure, being able to cause demineralization, providing to dental erosion, as long these drinks are consumed in excess. Therefore, it’s possible to realize the importance of diet as a coadjuvant in the diagnosis of oral pathologies. |

La dieta representa uno de los principales factores asociados a la caries y al proceso de erosión dental, cuyos alimentos consumidos influyen directamente en la salud bucal del individuo. Los cambios de pH en el medio bucal, así como la exposición frecuente a los azúcares, pueden provocar la desmineralización de la estructura dental, exponiendo la dentina y los túbulos dentinarios, provocando dolor, hipersensibilidad y deterioro funcional y estético. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las propiedades físico-químicas de tres marcas y sabores de té disponibles en el mercado, verificando los valores de cantidad de azúcar y pH, y analizando si se encuentra por debajo del pH crítico de potencial cariogénico y desmineralización dental. La investigación siguió la metodología físico-química del Instituto Adolfo Lutz, en la cual se evaluaron los Sólidos Disueltos Totales (SST) por grados Brix y la Acidez Titulable por dispositivo pHmetro. En el presente estudio se analizaron tres marcas de té, incluidos tres sabores para cada marca. Ninguna de las muestras analizadas presentó un valor significativo de Sólidos Disueltos Totales, indicativo de ausencia de azúcar en su composición. Aunque, dos (Maravilhas da Terra y Q-vita) de las tres marcas analizadas presentaron valores de pH por debajo del pH crítico (pH = 5,5) para la disolución de la estructura dentaria, pudiendo provocar desmineralización, propiciando la erosión dental, como tiempo estas bebidas se consumen en exceso. Por lo tanto, es posible darse cuenta de la importancia de la dieta como coadyuvante en el diagnóstico de patologías orales. A dieta representa um dos principais fatores associados à cárie e ao processo de erosão dentária, cujos alimentos consumidos influenciam diretamente na saúde oral do indivíduo. As alterações de pH no meio bucal, assim como a exposição frequente aos açúcares, podem resultar na desmineralização da estrutura dentária, expondo dentina e os túbulos dentinários, ocasionando dor, hipersensibilidade e comprometimento funcional e estético. Nesse sentido, objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar as propriedades físico-químicas de três marcas e sabores de chás disponíveis no mercado, verificando os valores referentes à quantidade de açúcar e pH dessas bebidas, analisando se estão abaixo do pH crítico de potencial cariogênico e desmineralização dentária. A pesquisa seguiu a metodologia físico-química utilizada no estudo do Instituto Adolfo Lutz, na qual os Sólidos Solúveis Totais foram avaliados por meio da Escala Brix e a Acidez Titulável através do equipamento pHmêtro.
