This is an interdisciplinary bibliographical research based on studies on the history of Greek medicine by Jacques Jouanna and on cognitive-behavioral psychology, in line with Aaron Beck.  Both Aeschylus and Euripides used concepts of medicine in their poetry to characterize their characters. In the play Orestes (c. 408 BC) by Euripides (c. 480 - 406 BC), a picture of symptoms and causes of the disorder called for the poet as mania, which affects the title character, is presented to the public. The aim of this article is to verify the metonymic relationships between the concept of mania in classical antiquity and the concept of post-traumatic stress in contemporary psychology. O presente artigo é um levantamento do estado da arte sobre a incorporação de termos médicos no corpus trágico ao longo do século V a.C., especificamente sobre os transtornos psíquicos que acometem a personagem Orestes. Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica interdisciplinar a partir dos estudos sobre a história da medicina grega de Jacques Jouanna e da psicologia cognitivo-comportamental, na linha de Aaron Beck. Tanto Ésquilo quanto Eurípides empregaram em sua poesia conceitos da medicina para a caracterização de suas personagens. Na peça Orestes (c. 408 a. C.) de Eurípides (c. 480 - 406 a.C.) é apresentado ao público um quadro de sintoma e causa do transtorno denominado pelo poeta como mania, que afeta a personagem título.
