Resumo: | At the end of the 19th century, the city of São Paulo was surrounded by a suburb consisting of farms with strong rural characteristics. Situated in such an area was the neighborhood of Tatuapé, which arises in the middle of the land and rail routes that connected São Paulo with Rio de Janeiro. This study aims to understand the urbanization of São Paulo by the case of Tatuapé through maps produced throughout the twentieth century. The selected maps allow us to observe the evolution of the urban area and the metamorphosis from an area with rural characteristics to another predominantly urbana. This urbanization led to the consolidation of an expressive horizontal density, characteristic of the periphery of São Paulo in its eastern portion. |
