Traditionally, in general, the explanatory, in contrast to the restrictive relative, are expressed prosodically by isolation, that is, textually marked pause. This aspect, in many cases, results in an ambiguous interpretation or results from a particular discursive effect, especially in textual productions in the written modality. In order to analyze the possible occurrence of ambiguity or discursive effect in these constructions, a sample from xxxx (2022) with140 abstracts produced by students attending the 1st graduation period at a public university was considered. The relative constructions of the students were confronted with constructions used in scientific articles published in periodicals qualified by CAPES in the area of Psychology. The study is based on the works of Decat (1999, 2001, 2014) regarding stray/hypotactic sentences. The data show that the graphic sign of the comma is not decisive for the 'explanatory' or 'restrictive' interpretation of the constructions. In some cases, syntactic isolation occurs due to the discursive effect of focus. O artigo tem como meta analisar, em caráter preliminar, efeitos discursivos e de ambiguidade de construções relativas em artigos científicos da área da Psicologia e em produções textuais de discentes iniciantes de curso de graduação. Tradicionalmente, de modo geral, as explicativas, em contraste com as relativas restritivas, são expressas prosodicamente por isolamento, qual seja, pausa textualmente marcada. Tal aspecto, em muitos casos, resulta em interpretação ambígua ou decorre de efeito discursivo particular, em especial em produções textuais na modalidade escrita. Para verificar a possível ocorrência de ambiguidade ou efeito discursivo nessas construções, foi analisada uma amostra de Batista (2022), composta de 140 resumos de textos científicos produzidos por estudantes em fase inicial de formação superior, e um conjunto de ocorrências em artigos científicos publicados em periódicos qualificados pela CAPES da área da Psicologia. O estudo se baseia nos trabalhos de Decat (1999, 2001, 2014) a respeito das orações desgarradas/hipotáticas. Os dados mostram que o sinal gráfico da vírgula não é determinante para a interpretação ‘explicativa’ ou ‘restritiva’ das construções. Em alguns casos, o isolamento sintático se dá por efeito discursivo de foco.
