| Resumo: | This article aims to provide a reflection on the social economic formation in different spaces and times and the importance of the family as a regulatory institution of this system. The focus will be on Cantagalo, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and the process of constituing a local elite based on a mode of production. In the course of the investigation of the mechanisms that provided the formation of wealth and the accumulation of capital by groups and individuals, we observed some particularities that are important to be observed and consequently contributed to create and accentuate a social hierarchical division. |
