Resumo:The article presented here explores the theatrical mask as a place of passage and the effects resulting from the crisis that this transit can provoke between the actor and his own performance. The passage as an instance of crisis, the crisis as a sign of opening, an invitation to move away from oneself and go towards the other, this expansion as a ground for empathy and communication in the scene. For this, I take as reference some pedagogical experiences of training clowns developed in the courses and rehearsals conducted by me at the School of Theater of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) where I have been teaching since 1994, and an exercise in the creation of an experienced character by me in the process of rehearsing the theatrical performance A plebe de Coriolano, held in 2022 in Rio de Janeiro.
