description With the emergence of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a pandemic in March 2020. Faced with a health crisis and the increase in demand for antiseptic products as the main combatants to the virus, the market suffered difficulties in supplying the entire population in the acquisition of these products. Therefore, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) joined efforts to combat the pandemic, and one of its actions was the production of antiseptic alcohol, by the NUPLAM, one of its supplementary units responsible for research in the drugs field. This research is presented as a descriptive and retrospective case report about this activity. A data collection was carried out regarding the process of production of antiseptic alcohol solution carried out at NUPLAM-UFRN and distribution for the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). The time cut was between April 2nd to April 7th. August 2020. The total production exceeded 70 thousand liters of antiseptic alcohol, which were distributed to the health network. In 2021, the curve of the number of confirmed cases in RN continued to grow, as did the demand for hygiene care, making it essential to continue actions to combat the pandemic.

Con la aparición de un nuevo coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) que infecta gravemente a los humanos, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) declaró una pandemia debido a los alarmantes niveles de propagación en marzo de 2020. Ante una crisis sanitaria y una mayor demanda de productos antisépticos como uno de los principales combatientes al virus, el mercado sufrió dificultades para abastecer a toda la población en la adquisición de estos productos. En ese sentido, la Universidad Federal de Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) sumó esfuerzos para combatir la pandemia, siendo una de sus acciones la producción de alcohol INPM 70%, por parte del Centro de Investigación en Alimentos y Medicamentos (NUPLAM), su unidad complementaria. Esta investigación se presenta como un reporte de caso descriptivo y retrospectivo sobre esta actividad. Se realizó un levantamiento de datos sobre el proceso de producción y distribución de solución de alcohol INPM al 70% realizado en la NUPLAM-UFRN, para el estado de Rio Grande do Norte (RN), con corte de tiempo entre el 2 y el 7 de abril. 2020. La producción total superó los 70 mil litros de alcohol, que fueron distribuidos en todo el estado, incluidos hospitales universitarios, departamentos de salud del estado de RN y municipio de Natal, y sectores de salud y educación incluidos en la UFRN En 2021, la curva del número de casos confirmados en RN sigue creciendo, al igual que la demanda de cuidados de higiene, por lo que es fundamental continuar con las acciones para combatir la pandemia. Com o surgimento de um novo coronavírus (SARS-CoV-2) severamente infectante em humanos, a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) decretou pandemia devido aos níveis alarmantes de propagação em março de 2020. Frente a uma crise sanitária e o aumento da demanda de produtos antissépticos como um dos principais combativos ao vírus, o mercado sofreu dificuldades em suprir toda população na aquisição destes produtos. Neste sentido, a Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), somou esforços para o combate à pandemia, sendo uma de suas ações, a produção de álcool 70% INPM, pelo Núcleo de Pesquisa em Alimentos e Medicamentos (NUPLAM), sua unidade suplementar. Esta pesquisa é apresentada como um relato de caso, de caráter descritivo e retrospectivo, acerca desta atividade. Foi feito um levantamento de dados referente ao processo de produção e distribuição de solução de álcool 70% INPM realizado no NUPLAM-UFRN, para o estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN), com um recorte de tempo entre 02 de abril à 07 de agosto do ano de 2020.
