From the intersection of ethnographic methods and life stories, it was possible to focus on two questions: how hunger can mobilize action and what meanings food or hunger memories gain in the present. Inspired by Lila Abu-Lughod’s (2018) proposal of “writing against culture”, I outline a kind of narrative strategy, in a textual effort to demonstrate how particular stories allow us to perceive how broader processes, such as inequality and hunger, manifest themselves in people's daily lives, bodies and words Este texto se dedica a analizar las percepciones subjetivas sobre el hambre a través del diálogo con dos mujeres recolectoras de material reciclable, en una encuesta realizada en la ciudad de Diamantina-Minas Gerais.
