Resumo: | This teaching case was designed to provide students of graduate or executive education programs access to knowledge of succession cases in family businesses, contributing to the analysis of phenomena that occur in their realities. The experience reported here refers to the story of the family succession process at the Mater Dei hospital, conducted by the founding partner, Dr. José Salvador Silva, whose desire was to guarantee the company's longevity in view of the statistics that most family businesses cannot survive to the third generation of the Family (SOUZA, 2020). With the adequate preparation of the four children, it was possible to implement rules for the work of family members in the family business, including members of future generations. At the end, the teaching case addresses the challenge of reconciling the action spaces of the predecessor and the successor to redefine the role of the former and protect the construction of the legitimacy of the latter. |
