This twist has received various analyzes from that moment up to the present. This paper focuses on Aby Warburg’s interpretation of that Kepler’s innovation, which is not only scientific but also aesthetic, by analyzing the ellipse in a wider and more complex frame, that of the History of Images. La obra de Johannes Kepler y, en particular, su imagen de la figura orbital elíptica con la que quebró siglos de tradición astronómica en los que tan sólo se consideraba al círculo como figura apropiada para describir los movimientos celestes (a tal punto que ni siquiera el mismísimo Galileo Galilei pudo o supo apreciar la veracidad de los cálculos y teorías keplerianos), constituyó un acontecimiento bisagra y disruptivo en la historia de la cosmología, por lo que recibió diversos análisis desde aquél momento hasta el presente. Ahora bien, por la peculiaridad del caso (esto es, tratándose de una dimensión -si bien en principio científica- también estética), quizá no haya lectura más interesante sobre los descubrimientos de Kepler que la de un especialista en historia de las imágenes como Aby Warburg. Así, resulta enriquecedor comprender el análisis de Warburg sobre este tópico kepleriano.
