| Resumo: | This article aims at analyzing indirect anaphoric reference present in Amazonian narratives, considering that these build referential processes immersed in the context in which such narratives are produced. The theories supporting this study are anchored in Koch (2004; 2006; 2008); Marcuschi (2005; 2006; 2007); Schwartz (2000); Tesnière (1977); Tomasello (2003) and Moura (2013; 2017). Indirect anaphors are socio-cognitive and cultural activities, mobilizing processes such as: IAs[1] based on semantic relations inscribed in defined and indefinite NPs; IAs based on thematic roles of verbs; IAs based on textual elements activated by nominalizations; IAs based on cognitive schemata and mental models; IA based on inferences anchored in the textual world model; IA without a co-textual antecedent having to do not only textual structures, but also elements immersed in referential contexts. The corpus consists of 7 (seven) narratives, contained in 13 (thirteen) issues of the magazine Visagens, Assombrações e Encantamentos da Amazônia, written by Monteiro. These issues were edited in the years 1997 to 2004, dealing with: Boto, Cobra, Matintaperera, Curupira, Iara, Lobisomem and Assombrações and Visagens. The reviews have led me to conclude that the studied processes are constitutive of these narratives, reaffirming the premise that they reconstruct specific symbolic and socio-cognitive meanings.
