This article proposes to reflect and highlight some proposals developed in the area that seek to break with the current cisheteronormativity in ballroom dancing. Feminist studies linked to the debate about gender are presented, the concepts of "co-leading" proposed by Jonas Feitoza, "active lady" developed by Míriam Strack and "shared leading" by Carolina Polezi are discussed, and comments are made on the queer and gay milongas, as well as their influences in questioning the concepts of lady and gentleman. It is considered that the problematization of the relations between lady and gentleman, conductor and conducted is still incipient in its theory and little applied in the pedagogical practices of ballroom dancing.
