Resumo:This essay proposes to analyze the symbolic disputes that unfold from the Monumental Bridge designed by Oscar Niemeyer in Brasília. Despite the name given by its author, the bridge was inaugurated with the name of a dictator, as Costa e Silva Bridge, and since then it has gone through processes of dispute that organize in themselves questions regarding urban memory, narratives about the city, symbolism and meaning of urban objects. From this perspective, through the notions of social and narrative imaginary, the question in dispute is highlighted: memory in urban space. Through the literature review and the study of the specific case, a tensioning of the question is proposed, approaching the uses of memory in the maintenance of complex narratives.
