Descrição
Resumo:The study aims to describe the contributions that the health education process provides to ostomized patients undergoing home treatment. This is an integrative literature review. The searches were carried out in the following databases LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE and in the SciELO portal, using the descriptors associated with the Boolean operator and “Health promotion and Ostomies and Home care”. The criteria for inclusion of studies were: published between 2012 and 2021, whose access to journals is free of charge, complete articles, in Portuguese and English and related to the guiding question. As exclusion criteria we have: duplicated, incomplete articles, access restricted to payment of fees, abstracts, reviews, theses and dissertations. The health education process is fundamental for the positive prognosis of the ostomized patient, since it contributes to the promotion of autonomy, prevents complications, improves the rates of mental disorders, helps to improve physical and social aspects and increases the quality of life. In this sense, this study supports both the academic community and health professionals, suggesting the stimulation of new research related to this topic, which may contribute in the future to improve the quality of life of ostomized patients.
