The method used for the elaboration of this text was the autoethnography of memories, supported by files, reports and databases of each research carried out in the period of memories from 2000 to 2021, about two decades of academic career. This research inventory focuses on criminal justice, human rights and crime. When analyzing this trajectory, I can say that I am the result of the conditions of possibility that were presented in the fields where I traveled and by the many references that I came across and that also inspired me to study these themes. Twenty years of research in the area of ??public security and criminal justice indicate that we continue with the same system of “grinding people”, imprisoning “suspects”, tolerating police extermination, pretending that we have justice based on the Democratic State of Law. Despite this, we need to continue our research, so that one day this system will finally be broken. O artigo descreve uma trajetória de pesquisa sociológica no campo do Direito, destacando as experiências vividas, os desafios enfrentados e o aprendizado adquirido nesse percurso. O método utilizado para a elaboração desse texto foi o da autoetnografia de memórias, respaldada por arquivos, relatórios e bancos de dados de cada pesquisa realizada no período de lembranças, de 2000 a 2021, cerca de duas décadas de percurso acadêmico. Esse inventário de experiências de pesquisas tem como temas a justiça criminal, os direitos humanos e o crime. Ao analisar essa trajetória, posso dizer que sou resultado das condições de possibilidade que foram apresentadas nos campos onde transitei e pelas tantas referências que me deparei e que me inspiraram a estudar esses temas. Vinteanos de pesquisa na área da segurança pública e justiça criminal sinalizam que continuamos com o mesmo sistema de “moer gente”, aprisionando “suspeitos”, tolerando o extermínio policial, fingindo que temos uma justiça baseada no Estado Democrático de Direito. Apesar disso, é preciso continuar nossas pesquisas, para que um dia esse sistema seja finalmente rompido.
