The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a non-invasive treatment to neurological pathologies, exiting or inhibiting the neuron. This method was introduced by Barker in 1985, and it is conquering more space. This revision article objective is to point out the positive and negative sides of the technique, focusing specially on the stimulator equipment and the role of the Electrical Engineering on the process. In the end, improvements and advances that the technology can bring to the technique are exposed with some topics that have been neglected and need deeper research. La estimulación magnética transcraneal es un método de tratamiento no invasivo para tratar patologías neurológicas mediante la excitación o inhibición de la actividad neuronal. Este método fue introducido por Barker en 1985 y ha recibido cada vez más espacio en la acción para el tratamiento de patologías neurológicas. Este artículo de revisión pretende señalar los puntos positivos y negativos de la técnica, exponiendo los principales usos, la seguridad y los fundamentos de funcionamiento de la misma, con especial atención al equipo estimulador y a la aplicación de la ingeniería eléctrica en el proceso. Al final, se presentan las posibles mejoras y avances que la tecnología puede aportar a la técnica, con temas que aún se descuidan y carecen de mayor investigación. A Estimulação Magnética Transcraniana é um método de tratamento não invasivo para tratamento de patologias neurológicas, excitando ou inibindo a atividade do neurônio. Esse método foi introduzido por Barker em 1985 e tem recebido cada vez mais espaço na ação para o tratamento de patologias neurológicas. Esse artigo de revisão busca apontar os pontos positivos e negativos da técnica, expondo os principais usos, segurança e fundamentos de funcionamento da técnica, com um enfoque especial no equipamento estimulador e a aplicação da engenharia elétrica sobre o processo. Ao final, são apresentadas as possíveis melhorias e avanços que a tecnologia pode trazer para a técnica, com tópicos que ainda estão sendo negligenciados e carecem de pesquisas mais aprofundadas.
