SAFs are alternatives to the agricultural practice adopted by family and subsistence farmers, which are characterized by the felling of all native vegetation, followed by burning of the remains of organic materials. This way of preparing the area for agricultural practice causes death of wild animals and loss of their habitats, soil degradation, in addition to fire risks. This text aims to present the results of the extension project “Participatory development of agroforestry systems: an alternative for the sustainable production of family farming” over 3 years. This project aims to present and discuss the use of SAFs as a way of practicing sustainable agriculture Los Sistemas Agroforestales (SAF) son formas de hacer agricultura que ayudan a conservar los recursos naturales y, por lo tanto, son de gran importancia para la agricultura familiar. Los SAF son alternativas a la práctica agrícola de subsistencia adoptada por los agricultores familiares, que se caracterizan por la tala de toda la vegetación nativa, seguida de la quema de los restos de materiales orgánicos. Esta forma de preparar la zona para la práctica agrícola provoca la muerte de los animales salvajes y la pérdida de sus hábitats, degradación del suelo, además de riesgos de incendio. Este texto tiene como objetivo presentar los resultados del proyecto de extensión “Desarrollo participativo de sistemas agroforestales: una alternativa para la producción sostenible de la agricultura familiar” a lo largo de 3 años. Este proyecto tiene como objetivo presentar y discutir el uso de SAF como una forma de practicar la agricultura sostenible. Sistemas Agroflorestais (SAFs) são formas de fazer agricultura que auxiliam na conservação dos recursos naturais e por isso são de grande importância para a agricultura familiar. Os SAFs são alternativas à prática de agricultura de subsistência adotada por agricultores familiares, que se caracteriza pela derrubada de toda vegetação nativa, seguido de queimada dos restos de materiais orgânicos. Esta forma de preparo da área para prática da agricultura, causa morte de animais silvestres e perda de seus habitats, degradação do solo, além de riscos de incêndios. O presente texto objetiva apresentar resultados do projeto de extensão “Desenvolvimento participativo de sistemas agroflorestais: uma alternativa para a produção sustentável da agricultura familiar” ao longo de 3 anos. O referido projeto tem como objetivo apresentar e discutir a utilização dos SAFs como forma de prática da agricultura sustentável.
