| Resumo: | This article aims to analyze how the conservation and preservation of the library collection belonging to a Higher Education Institution in the City of Salvador was carried out, from the perspective of the post-custodial paradigm. The research was developed from a case study; as for the objectives, the research was characterized as descriptive and as for its approach, it is qualitative. For data collection, direct observation was used, as well as the report of library employees, through semi-structured interviews. The results showed that the lack of concern, on the part of the HEI managers and the information professionals involved, with the conservation of the collection caused the loss of rare works, especially in the area of accounting, and also of personal collections of Bahian academics, such as also in the information loss that these supports preserved, due to the lack of a coherent collections policy and the lack of preparation of professionals who were not prepared for the balanced transition between the custodial and post-custodial paradigms. |
