Resumo:Aging is associated with progressive functional loss in multiple systems, including the sensory system, cognitive system related to learning, memory, language, attention, in addition to motor and emotional control. Music helps to organize, to punctuate life in sequence to remember phases of life and the time in which they occurred, acts as an important factor in the construction of personality and can help to cure illnesses. This study aims to verify the effects of music as a therapeutic resource on cognitive development in the elderly. This is an integrative review study, the data collection was carried out through the analysis of articles published in national and international journals, from March to June 2021, limited to articles that were published between the years of 2016 and 2021. 663 scientific articles were found in the searched databases, and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 6 articles remained for the discussion of the topic. It is concluded that musicalization for the elderly has many benefits, as it improves memory reactivation, increased self-esteem and, consequently, an interpersonal and affective growth, in terms of motivation in the emotional and social aspects.
