Resumo:This paper presents a discussion about frozen idioms, how Eva tem horas and Eva ficou pra semente, and a way Portuguese language textbooks of the first year of high school deal with this subject. The study of frozen idioms in the classroom is relevant considering that we use expressions all the time, whether in spoken or written language, through various textual genres, formal or informal genres. A native speaker can usually perceive the meaning of these expressions, however, someone who is learning the Portuguese language may have difficulty interpreting these expressions and imagining unlikely situations, as they would seek the literal, compositional meaning of the expression. Through the study of frozen idioms, students can reflect on the language in use, as these constructions allow a lexical, semantic and syntactic analysis of sentence elements. With that, this work is based on the theoretical-methodological model of Lexicon-Grammar, proposed by Maurice Gross (1975), to base ourselves on the properties of frozen idioms.
