Resumo:Chronic kidney disease has been a matter of concern for health professionals, among the treatments indicated is hemodialysis, requiring a vascular access. The AVF is essential for hemodialysis; however, it requires rigorous care for its maintenance. Thus, this study aims to identify effective nursing interventions in promoting self-care in patients with arteriovenous fistulas. And as specific objectives: to list the main problems caused by the deficit of self-care with the AVF; identify self-care strategies to ensure the durability of AVF; present nursing strategies to promote self-care. In order to achieve the objectives, in the period from March to April 2021, an integrative review was carried out, based on the bases of. Among the most common nursing interventions are checking blood pressure before making the AVF, patient and nursing staff guidance on not performing catheterization, assessment of early indication of access, guidance to patients before hemodialysis on the relevance of their vessels, among others. It is concluded that: the nursing professional is essential for the maintenance of the AVF in hemodialysis, not only in providing care, but also guiding the patients' self-care.
