Resumo:Introduction: Health care can be identified as an integral strategy, and its production is listed as a priority for the male population, since this audience has singularities and specificities. Objective: To analyze the understandings of the male population, assisted in the scope of Primary Health Care, about health care in the municipality of Glória do Goitá - PE. Methodology: This is a descriptive-exploratory study, with a qualitative approach. The study setting was the Primary Health Care in the city of Glória do Goitá - PE, from June to August 2019, with six male users participating. The collection was carried out through semi-directed interviews, using the content analysis proposed by Bardin. The study was only carried out after approval by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: The findings were listed in two categories: the perception of health care, where the male population identified this care as promotion and prevention practices, however, it still presented the influence of the biomedical model; and the perception of the health system, where it was identified that the Brazilian health system still has access barriers that need to be overcome. Conclusions: The development and improvement of public policies aimed at the male population are characterized as one of the main strategies for expanding access to health services. In addition, Primary Health Care is characterized as a strategic level to rethink and rebuild the Health Care model, as well as to collaborate in the process of empowering the male population.
