The publications of this periodical from São João on school instruction were constituted as a space for debates regarding the development of instruction in the town of São João del-Rei, especially spreading the liberal-moderate ideals in the Minas Gerais province. Este trabalho teve por objetivo analisar as representações da elite política e social da vila São João del-Rei sobre a instrução escolar no período de 1827 à 1839, a partir do periódico Astro de Minas. As publicações deste periódico são-joanense sobre a instrução escolar constituíram-se como um espaço de debates referente ao desenvolvimento da instrução na vila de São João del-Rei, difundindo especialmente os ideais liberais-moderados na província mineira.
