Resumo:Point out the role and importance of family caregivers in assisting patients with Alzheimer's, detailing the difficulties these caregivers face in their daily lives, and ways to provide more effective care assistance. The search was performed in LILACS databases; SciELO and BDENF. Guided by the question 'What does the literature discuss about the roles of caregivers in home care for patients with Alzheimer's disease?'. Used the health descriptors “Caregivers; Home Assistance; Alzheimer's disease”, crossed with the Boolean operator “AND”. The inclusion criteria used were complete articles available in full, in Portuguese and English, with a time frame from 2015 to 2021. The exclusion criteria are; Articles with a cut-off lower than 2014, incomplete, abstracts, theses, dissertations, duplicates and studies in languages ??other than those selected as selection criteria. With the analysis of the studies, it was possible to show that caregivers play a role in different axes of care, from assistance to daily activities to the development of tasks with the objective of improving the patient's quality of life. Therefore, it was possible to observe that the work of caregivers is not something easy, as they have numerous factors that make care difficult, including the lack of training and preparation to face stressful situations in the illness process.
