Resumo:  The present article is an ethnography of a rural neighborhood formed by small family units with production destined for subsistence. Jacutinga is located in the municipality of Serro, MG. Throughout the research I analyzed the Social Food Area (Poulain; Proença; 2003) of the residents, especially the Edible Space and the local Food System. Changes and permanence in food, and its production and consumption dynamics were analyzed in the period stretching from 1970 to 2018. Methodological procedures such as recurring semi-structured interviews, participant observation and informal conversations helped in the development of this study. Social relations, work relations as well as sociability around the process of obtaining and of producing foodstuffs were considered throughout the analysis.
