In this context, the present work seeks to identify the relationship between public policies to combat Covid-19 and the authoritarian conduct of politics, in a democratic crisis concomitant with the health crisis. Social immunization in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic depended on the efficient communication of social systems, in the sense of being guided by information from the scientific and health system, seeking to flatten the infected curve. However, the health crisis coincided with an internal crisis in the democratic political system in different regions of the world, such as Brazil. Through documentary research, undertaking an analytical treatment mainly of contemporary journalistic reports, as well as bibliographic research, we may conclude that in Brazil, the internal crisis of democracy, with the politicization of scientific and health information, dissemination of fake news and federative and institutional crises guided by the friend/enemy code, favored the inefficient epidemiological control of Covid-19 RESUMOA intensificação das comunicações sociais e o “encurtamento” de distâncias, na sociedade moderna, representam condições de possibilidade e riscos para a própria manutenção da ordem social, considerando a facilidade de compartilhamento de crises entre as diversas regiões do globo. Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho busca identificar a relação entre as políticas públicas de combate ao Covid-19 e a condução autoritária da política, em uma crise democrática concomitante à crise sanitária brasileira. A imunização social em face da pandemia de Covid-19 dependeu da eficiente comunicação dos sistemas sociais, no sentido de se orientarem pelas informações do sistema científico e sanitário buscando achatar a curva de infectados. Todavia, a crise sanitária coincidiu com uma crise interna do sistema político democrático em diversas regiões do mundo, como o Brasil. Através de uma pesquisa exploratória e documental, empreendendo um tratamento analítico sobretudo dos relatos jornalísticos contemporâneos, bem como bibliográfica, podemos concluir que no Brasil, a crise interna da democracia, com a politização das informações científicas e sanitárias, divulgação de fake news e crises federativas e institucionais orientadas pelo código amigo/inimigo, favoreceram o ineficiente controle epidemiológico do Covid-19.
