| Resumo: | This article aims to mobilize the first volume of the Boletim da Sociedade Libertadora Norte Rio-Grandense as a source in order to problematize the way in which the enslaved people were represented by this type of abolitionist periodical, as well as to highlight the self-representation of the members of the abolitionist society, as honorable virtuous men. In this way, the space of Rio Grande do Norte will be studied, both through the periodical, as well as through the historiography and actions of this elite as writers and disseminators of a civilizing ideal based on their own practices. |
