Resumo:The objective of this research was to identify the levels of financial education perceived and practiced by undergraduate and graduate students of Higher Education Institutions in Brazil (HEI) from different areas of education and in different degrees of schooling knowledge. These levels of financial education they have were assessed through the application of an online questionnaire, to which 727 valid responses were received. The data were formed using descriptive statistics, hypothesis tests and multiple linear regression. The results of the investigation show that students from Brazilian HEIs have an above average financial education level, but underestimate the real about financial knowledge they have. In addition, students' areas of knowledge and socioeconomic characteristics differ in determining levels of real financial education and perception. This study contributes by demonstrating that it is relevant to assess the perception of students, as well as the real level of financial education. In addition, the study, in a pioneering way, shows that in practice, the results of this research reinforce the role of Higher Education Institutions as a source of financial education in society and warns them to strengthen their performance, mobilizing themselves to promote more access to financial education for students and the community.
