This article proposes a reflection on one of the school rites in which the (in) docile bodies of girls and boys, presumably, can express themselves with more freedom: break time. What is the break, that magical, noisy and bustling interval that for a moment breaks a continuum of prescriptions and proscriptions? From an ethnographic perspective, we realize that the break time is also made up of rules, not always explicit. Rules that separate, classify and rank, and contribute to the incessant work of training of bodies at school. The games and plays that take place during it are generified, as are the spaces in which they take place. From the court to the courtyard, the normalizing sanction falls in different ways on the bodies of girls and boys, according to the gender of the transgression and the transgressions of gender. However, despite constant vigilance, girls and boys resist, deviate, and create: they tension and displace gender boundaries in their games and plays, testing, in a playful way, other ways of being and staying in the world. Este artículo propone una reflexión sobre un rito escolar en el cual los cuerpos (in) dóciles de niñas y niños pueden, presumiblemente, expresarse con más libertad: el recreo. ¿Qué es el recreo, ese intervalo mágico y ruidoso que rompe momentáneamente un continuum hecho de prescripciones y proscripciones? Desde una perspectiva etnográfica, percibimos que el recreo también se compone de reglas, no siempre explícitas, que separan y clasifican, contribuyendo para el trabajo incesante de adiestramiento de los cuerpos en la escuela. Los juegos que tienen lugar en él son generificados, al igual que los espacios donde ocurren. Desde la cancha hasta el patio, la sanción normalizadora recae de diferentes maneras en los cuerpos de niñas y niños, de acuerdo con el género de la transgresión y las transgresiones de género. Sin embargo, a pesar de la vigilancia constante, las niñas y los niños resisten, se desvían, inventan: tensionan y desplazan los límites de género en sus juegos, probando, de manera lúdica, otras formas de ser y estar en el mundo. Este artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre um rito escolar no qual os corpos (in)dóceis de meninas e meninos podem, supostamente, se expressar com mais liberdade: o recreio. O que é o recreio, esse intervalo mágico, barulhento e alvoroçado que rompe momentaneamente um continuum feito de prescrições e proscrições? A partir de um olhar etnográfico, percebemos que o recreio também é feito de regras, nem sempre explícitas, que separam, classificam e hierarquizam, concorrendo para o trabalho incessante de adestramento dos corpos na escola. Os jogos e brincadeiras que nele ocorrem são generificados, assim como os espaços nos quais se desenrolam. Da quadra ao pátio, a sanção normalizadora recai de formas distintas sobre os corpos de meninas e meninos, segundo o gênero da transgressão e as transgressões de gênero. Entretanto, apesar da vigilância constante, meninas e meninos resistem, desviam, inventam: tensionam e deslocam as fronteiras de gênero em seus jogos e brincadeiras, testando, de forma lúdica, outras formas de ser e de estar no mundo.
