Through a descriptive / exploratory research, a participatory and applied research was started with the team that developed this work in the company, being supported by a bibliographical review and semi-structured interview, the following results were built: increased equipment life, reduced the number of breaks improved people's involvement (resulting in increased productivity), perception of new equipment investments, bottlenecks, visual improvement of jobs, reduction of 75% of press breaks 5500 (largest aluminum extrusion press) of Latin America), surpassing that proposed by the management that was 50%, stabilized the process and the production of truck floors (reducing their variations), and another improvement was the development of Autonomous Maintenance (MA) and Planned Maintenance (PM) . Esse trabalho apresenta a TPM (Manutenção Produtiva Total), como ferramenta para potencializar o uso da maior prensa de extrusão de alumínio da América Latina, na Alcoa em Utinga no grande ABC/SP. Através de uma pesquisa descritiva/exploratória iniciou-se uma investigação participativa e aplicada junto à equipe que desenvolveu esse trabalho na empresa, sendo apoiada por uma revisão bibliográfica e entrevista semiestruturada, construiu-se o seguintes resultados: aumentou a vida útil de equipamentos, reduziu o número de quebras, melhorou o envolvimento das pessoas (resultando em aumento de produtividade), percepção de novos investimentos em equipamentos, gargalos, melhora visual dos postos de trabalho, redução de 75% das quebras na prensa 5500 (maior prensa de extrusão de alumínio da América Latina) superando o proposto pela direção que era de 50%, estabilizou o processo e a produção de pisos de caminhões (reduzindo suas variações), e outra melhora existente foi o desenvolvimento da Manutenção Autônoma (MA) e Manutenção Planejada (MP).
